He was born on May 13, 1961, in Trenton, a city in the state of New Jersey. He was the son of Shirley and Philander Rodman.

By 1997, Chicago won their second threepeat, and Rodman had once again added a 7th rebounding Champion title. Making it seven consecutive rebounding crowns.
